I miss you

I miss you

like the sun longs to behold the earth

and touch it with bright, warming rays

when the gray clouds no longer block its path

๐Ÿ’›

I miss you

like the once verdant forests and meadows

miss the longer, warmer days of summer

before winter covered the land in snow

๐Ÿ’›

I miss you

like the parched ground of the desert

yearns for the rain that has yet to come

how much longer can it endure?

๐Ÿ’›

I miss your smile

the way your eyes light up

when you see a friend

๐Ÿ’›

I miss your laugh

the way it was contagious

and made me cackle too

๐Ÿ’›

I miss the way you would hug me

so tightly yet tenderly

and not let go until I did

๐Ÿ’›

I miss the time we took for granted

Why were we so eager to grow up?

We were once so carefree

๐Ÿ’›

I miss living close to you

we said distances don’t matter

but it’s not the same

๐Ÿ’›

I miss staying up late

talking about everything and nothing

until the sun was touching the horizon

๐Ÿ’›

I miss the energy we once had

I miss doing crazy stupid things together

things our kids will definitely judge us for

if we share the stories with them (key word, โ€˜ifโ€™)

๐Ÿ’›

I miss just being together

simply existing in each other’s presence

before adult responsibilities

took over our lives

๐Ÿ’›

I’m grateful for the memories

but memories are not enough

perhaps I’m greedy for wanting more

for longing for days now past

๐Ÿ’›

But I miss you

so much

but the you and me we were

have changed

๐Ÿ’›

So I will always miss you

and miss the times we had

But I will always be grateful too

for such friendships and memories.

I started reminiscing about my childhood, teens, and early 20โ€™s and was struggling with the emotions of missing many friends, family members, and even acquaintances that made an impact. However, a majority of this poem is applicable to really anyone I now live far away from and/or no longer see on a regular basis. Some people I am no longer in touch with, but I miss them nonetheless. So, I decided to write about it as a way to process my emotions, which is something I often do when struggling with intense emotions. Anyways, if you can relate to this let me know in the comments.ย
